Tom Manners - Loves Talking Maths Teaching
I love discussing maths pedagogy with teachers and leaders and enjoy sharing my knowledge and interest as often as possible. I hope that the CPD, research, videos and interviews on my website give you access to just some of my enthusiasm.
We know that passion is key when delivering maths lessons – and if you have that, then you will want to work with me, as I have it in spades!
@Mannermatics just stumbled across your Algebra Tiles video on Youtube and wow, did it blow my mind! I’ve seen a coule vids advertising using tiles but not any that showed how to use them. The 4-(-2) example in particular made me blow my mind. Thank you for sharing. Amazing stuff!

Truly fantastic episode - I love the open middle problems, just the type I love to do with my class and see them so determined to find an answer (or the closest they can!)
Downloaded the favourite problems straight away!
Tom has actively encouraged us as a department to use bar modelling across a variety of topics as a way of facilitating learning. The impact of this has been profound, and has been evidenced all the way up to Key stage 4 with pupils using bar modelling as a tool for successfully answering GCSE questions
Thank you so much for this fantastic session! Absolutely helpful. Looking forward to the next one.
We are in a golden age of maths CPD I believe. Absolutely brilliant use of an hour! Really liked the relaxed, enthusiastic and natural nature of the delivery as well as the deep discussions around the tasks and benefits for learners. Looking forward to episode 2! #ResourceFULL
Tom is a very engaging speaker and teacher trainer and I'm totally aligned with Tom's stance on maths education. He was a dedicated, hard-working and supportive Head of Maths and was excellent when it comes to leading a department through a change
Thanks Tom manners for another fantastic CPD! Seriously, people you need to get on these. Absolute gold since the lockdown!

If you didn’t manage to catch this live make sure to catch up. I promise its not just because I get a mention. @robertkaplinsky talks passionately about #openmiddle problems and how to use them.
Tom Manners is one of the most enthusiastic educators I have had the pleasure to work with. He is dynamic and inspiring not only with his delivery in a classroom but also in his approach to training staff. Tom shows an outstanding understanding of curriculum and the challenges faced by young people today with regards to achieving their mathematics GCSE. Whilst working with him it became obvious that his enthusiasm was contagious and he was able to engage even some of the most challenging pupils. His passion for the subject and for educating others, both pupils and colleagues alike, is at the forefront of everything Tom does. He really is an inspiration to work alongside.
